Description

Restore America's Estuaries (RAE) and The Nature Conservancy (TNC) are pleased to co-host LATITUDE 41 REGIONAL SYMPOSIUM: Taking Action to Reduce Nitrogen in Long Island Sound, the Peconic Estuary, and the South Shore Bays. The Regional Symposium will provide a forum for a cross-section of local and regional leaders to hear experts from across the region, from the Bronx to Cape Cod, about their experience with the science and practice of reducing nutrient pollution and how it might be applied to Long Island Sound, the Peconic Estuary and South Shore bays. The symposium will also seek to better understand the development of nitrogen reduction targets in watersheds, their limitations and strengths, and how they can be implemented and monitored. The use of ecological endpoints in estuaries will also be explored, and ways in which they can be used to prevent and reduce nitrogen impairments.

The symposium will highlight new scientific information about nutrient pollution, explore economic benefits from addressing pollution, discuss ongoing municipal, regional, state and federal efforts and how they align, and highlight funding options to help pay for nutrient reduction strategies and actions. This meeting will be of particular importance to understanding the role of municipal governments in the state and federal nitrogen reduction strategies.

Attendance is targeted to 100-150 participants including leaders from municipal and county governments, conservation and environmental groups, and the private foundation community.

Everyone must register in advance in order to attend. A continental breakfast and buffet lunch will be served. Registration will close Wednesday, April 27.
